Scholarships of $500 are available to high school students who have been accepted to either the University of Akron or Franciscan University of Steubenville, and are also available to current students at these universities, who are starting or currently working toward a major or minor in classics or classical studies.  We select our scholarship recipients based upon an essay submitted to us for consideration.  The essay must be accompanied by a short application form that includes the applicant's contact information, name of the University they attend or intend to attend, and the name and address of the high school they attend or from which they have graduated.  Homeschool students are also welcome.  The application must also be accompanied by a short statement about why the applicant wants to study the classics of western civilization. The essay shall be submitted to the link below and shall be a pdf document of between 2000 and 2500 words.  The document shall contain the name  of the applicant on the top of the first page, and shall be double spaced and 12 point font with margins of one inch on all sides.

The topic for essay submissions for the fall semester 2025 shall be:

"The Influence of Ancient Greek Democracy on Modern Political Systems"

Although grammar, spelling and punctuation are always important in communications, the primary focus of the essay review will be based upon critical thinking and research into both historical facts and contemporary political structures. By submitting an application, you agree to our terms of use.
